What a sweet horse. He is a very gentle soul. At peace with himself and you, has a sense of calmness, security and loyalty. Very willing to please and confident in his abilities. Has a real curiosity about him. Wants to know what is going on all the time. I asked him if he liked living there and he said yes and yes he loves you too. Says you are very good to him and takes good care of him. He likes Henry and I saw Henry chasing him and he loving it. I did a body scan and found some discrepancies in his body. I felt eye pain and right jaw pain up to his ears and to base of his neck connected to his ears. His right jaw felt painful. His withers were sore and right at the base of his left hip was out of alignment. His haucks were sore too. Which is normal at his age. I asked him if he wanted me to tell you of his aches and pains and he said yes. He also said to tell you, "I Love Meaghan. She needs to be more relaxed in her riding, more confident. She's a good rider. I won't hurt her. Love our rides together and love it when she talks to me. I also love carrots-I love them a lot." He said his hay was good, grain was good. He likes grain-a lot.
He is a very sweet horse and loves being your partner. You found a good happy soul. Good for you!
Response from Meaghan: Thank you so much! This is so cool ! A ton of it a lines and some if it is new info which is really exciting! I can give you my perspective and background so show you how dead on you are!
(knock on wood) I have never fallen off captain. He gives me some hell but he never has tried to hurt me ever! He takes care of his momma I am glad he thinks I am a good rider I try to keep his body and mind in my mind when I ride him. I will defiantly be more confident going forward with his commitment to take care of me. This makes me smile so big and makes me so happy. I am also glad he likes what we do together. I try so hard to make his life as enjoyable as possible and we had some great adventures this year with our new to us (80s) trailer LOL
Captain had no steady partnership and had some rough match ups. Seems like he went auction to auction for a bit . I have always tried to show him I’m here for the long haul and build trust and has always reciprocated by taking care of me. Our partnership is equal and he means the world to me . Others tried to bully him into something he wasn’t and he never stayed anywhere long because he doesn’t take that well. (I wouldn’t either)
As far as his body I am so sad he is hurting in so many places. Some history he has hock issues and stomach issues when I got him 5 years ago. He seemed to be fluid and comfortable once I got him on a supplement and got him living in an in and out so he never gets that arthritis kind of stuck. But I may need to do some more work on that! His stomach issues have been a problem forever and I may have finally gotten him some control (crossing my fingers it stays that way I have tried everything!) I am not surprised about his hip I was just showing my friend how once and a while when you brush him his hip reacts weirdly. I am going to use her chiropractor asap! His eye runs like crazy and they have never figured out why. I had it flushed and examined by two different vets. I feel badly it hurts him I thought it was just runny ☹ . He has very high withers for a western quarter horse so I bought him a new saddle this year because his was starting to rub on his withers. The new one is awesome but he may need the chiropractor for that as well to get over the hump. As far as teeth/ jaw. He gets his teeth done yearly but is coming up on his appointment. About a year ago I noticed he started dropping grain everywhere I had the vet out to do his teeth and asked her if he was having issues with any of them etc… she said he had the best teeth in the barn…… but it never made sense to me. Maybe jaw is spot on ! something else going on under there or jaw to ear etc. He has those bumps in his ears. But is very good about bridling etc. The pole part surprises me cause man when he doesn’t wanna load he will let you put pressure on it for a bit before getting on lol. Which isn’t something I like to do but he doesn’t like to get on, he can throw his weight side to side good lol.
I love that he mentioned food. Hes the most food motivated horse I have ever seen. Probably because of his history he didn’t know where his next meal was coming always. Ive had him 5 years but hes never changed. HE LOVES FOOD. And he loves carrots but with his stomach I only give them as a special treat. He gets lots of cookies though. I will stick w the carrot flavored ones
I am glad he loves henry too. Hes very tolerant about him.
